Allied Orthopedics was created in the basement of Robert Cohen’s home in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, 33 years ago. He used the oven in his kitchen to mould plastics and he used hand tools until he could afford power tools.. Allied was so successful in meeting patient needs in prosthetics and orthotics that Robert was able to move Allied to its home on Flatbush Avenue in 1983. Allied remained at this location for over 30 years. The storefront on Flatbush Avenue was always too small to afford patients the ideal space for gait analysis or exercise.
At the end of 2013, Allied moved into a new, spacious facility in Ozone Park, Queens. Now Allied can be the PROSTHETIC REHAB CENTER that Robert envisioned so many years ago. Allied now specializes in prosthetic technology to serve the amputee population with state-of-the art prosthetic devices. Allied’s facility now affords patients the full array of ramps, inclines and stairs to maximize the quality of rehabilitative training. A suspension system will soon be installed over a treadmill to enable patients to practice walking and running without fear of falling as they master their new prosthetic devices as well as their confidence.
